Writer as Reader (and viewer): Stephanie Plum Series

I’ve been doing some escapism reading with Janet Evanovich’s Stephanie Plum Series lately, and I’ve thought two things while reading.

1.) They should make this into a TV series (or even reboot the movie).

2.) The movie they did in 2012 had some casting issues.

After I finished Hot Six, I reviewed it on Goodreads and mostly outlined some new casting choices if they decide to put these novels on the screen again. (Big or small screen).

Check it out. From Goodreads
Hot Six (Stephanie Plum, #6)Hot Six by Janet Evanovich
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Again, another hilarious SP adventure! As I have been reading these, I’ve been thinking about the 1st movie & about why these books haven’t gotten the TV/Film love they deserve. I feel like the first movie of this series, “One for the Money” had some casting issues that maybe hampered efforts to move forward. I have some ideas on recasting (below).

My Picks for Stephanie: Amy Schumer or Jennifer Lawrence. I like Amy better for this role because I imagine Stephanie has Amy’s body shape and because she’s hilarious! Dye her hair brown, and let her go! Jennifer is a little young, but she could do the clueless, bumbling act very well. I realize KH was on fire at the time they made “One for the Money” and maybe the right age, but no. Not the right choice for Stephanie.

My pick for Ranger: Laz Alonso! LAZ ALONSO! He exudes the mystery, the sexy, and the big chiseled body that Ranger should have. Daniel Sunjata is great on “Notorious” in the sleek, complicated lawyer role. Not exactly Ranger material IMO.

My picks for Joe Morelli: Joe Manganiello, Kellan Lutz, Michael Trevino, Ian Somerhalder. Joe Manganiello is the only Italian one out of my picks and my first choice, but I think he may be too old for Morelli. Still, who cares with a body like that! Morelli needs a bit more funny for me than Jason O’ Mara brought, and Kellan or Joe could do that.

My pick for Grandma Mazur: Betty White. Debbie Reynolds was perfect in this role. I am sad that I have to recast! But Betty is the only one bringing it like Grandma Mazur would. Doris Roberts is a close second.

Bonus pick–for Lula: Kim Whitley. Sherri Shepherd is fine in the role for book 1, but I don’t know about moving forward. Kim Whitley would be totally hilarious moving forward.

IMDB says that the movie costs 40mil. to make and it made its budget back (If I am reading this right), so maybe there’s hope for a reboot or a 2nd installment. Or even a TV series. Give SP some screen love!
